Communications Intern → Communications Lead (Oct 2024 – Present)
I joined Africa Inventor Alliance when the organization was just six months old, stepping in as a Social Media Manager. At that stage, much of the work was about building from the ground up: creating digital assets, setting up our social media channels, and experimenting with ways to tell the stories of African inventors. Within months, I helped establish a consistent brand identity, launched a content strategy, and grew a strong follower base, especially on LinkedIn, where our reach and engagement expanded rapidly.
By early 2025, my role had evolved into Communications Lead, where I now oversee the Alliance’s entire marketing and communications portfolio. My responsibilities include managing press and media relations, developing campaigns that highlight African innovation, and producing all communication materials, from decks and reports to infographics and social media visuals. I also strengthened our SEO performance, raising visibility to 90%, which made our stories more discoverable to global audiences.
From the start, I worked in a hybrid model, collaborating closely with colleagues in Kigali while also supporting projects remotely. In 2025, my role shifted fully online, but the scope of my work extended across Rwanda. I traveled to Huye, where the Alliance runs innovation clubs across universities and technical schools. There, I supported capacity-building programs, facilitating some sessions myself and consistently designing and preparing the slides that structured our workshops. These programs helped students develop innovation skills, leadership, and entrepreneurial mindsets.
What excites me most about this role is that it sits at the intersection of storytelling and strategy. I make sure the work of African inventors doesn’t stay hidden in labs, classrooms, or journals, but reaches the public in ways that are compelling, accurate, and impactful. Through media liaison, digital campaigns, and on-the-ground workshops, I’ve had the privilege of helping position the Alliance as a platform for innovators who are shaping Africa’s future.
